Board Chair Nelson Kuria
Mr. Nelson Kuria is the former Group Managing Director of Co-operative Insurance Group (CIC) and has over 33 years’ experience in the financial services sector spanning banking, insurance, investments and co-operatives. Mr. Kuria has served on many boards in Kenya and internationally.
He has been awarded a merits Honour of “Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya” by the Head of State for his contribution to the development of CIC and the co-operative movement in Kenya. He is also a Panel Member of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA).
Mr. Kuria is an economist from the University of Nairobi and has undergone extensive training in Strategic Management at Stanford University.He is a Certified Public Accountant (FCPAK), fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries (FCPSK), Fellow of the Kenya Institute of Management (FKIM), former Deputy Chairman of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), former Board Member of the Registration of Accountants of Kenya (RAB).
Managing Simon Wafubwa
Simon Wafubwa has been a Board Member from inception.
He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Actuarial Mathematics Option) and finalist of Master’s Degree in Business Administration in Strategic Management at the University of Nairobi. He is a member of the Pensions Management Institute of the UK and currently pursuing the risk management certification examinations. Having worked in senior positions in both local and multinational organizations, Simon has broad and extensive experience in retirement benefits consulting.
He has also been instrumental in development of retirement benefits schemes systems that have come out to be the state of the art retirement benefits administration systems within the market. He has excellent communications and presentations skills blended with mild humor with a mix of intuitive abilities to diagnose clients and provision of on spot advisory services.
Simon is also a council member of the Association of Retirement Benefits Schemes in Kenya.
Board Members Peter Waiyaki
Peter Waiyaki is a lawyer with the Mboya Wangong’u and Waiyaki advocates. He is a partner at the Commercial and Corporate Practice Group and Company Secretarial Practice group. In addition he is the partner in charge of the firms’ Strategy and Development. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Diploma in Law. Mr. Waiyaki was admitted to the Roll of Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in December 1992.
He began his legal practice with Hamilton Harrison & Mathews rising to the position of partner in the commercial department of Hamilton Harrison & Mathews. He was also the Assistant General Counsel of Kenya Airways Limited before becoming the Chief Executive of Central Depository & Settlement Corporation Limited.
Mr. Waiyaki has broad and extensive experience in providing transactional legal services, general corporate finance particularly mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, equity fund raising through private placement, initial public offers and secondary public offers, securitization and corporate restructuring in private and listed companies. He is a recognized authority in Capital Markets transactions and has played a key role in the development of the legal and regulatory framework of the capital markets industry. He was named as a top commercial lawyer in Chambers Global 1999 and 2000 and again in 2010 and 2011. He is a Member of The Law Society of Kenya and the institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. He is also a Commissioner of Oaths and Notary Public. He is a director of several private companies.
Sharon Kisire is the former Director of Human Resources and the management of company facilities at leading mobile network operator, Safaricom. Previously, Sharon worked at the Kenya Wildlife Services for 10 years initially as Head of Human Capital and later as Deputy CEO with responsibilities for Human Capital. Prior to that, she worked at National Oil as HR & Administration Manager, and at Mater Hospital as Deputy HR Manager. Sharon has in depth HR experience, specializing in change management and HR strategy formulation.
She played a key role in the KWS transformation story, working with over 5000 employees. Sharon is a Kenyan citizen and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Human Resources at the University of Nairobi. She is also an author having published two books on HR Management and organizational behavior as well as two motivational books.
Sharon served as a board chair from 2011 to 2015.
Kennedy Monyoncho has been a Board Member since 2011.
He is the current chair of the Research and Training Board Committee.
He has over 20 year’s management experience in both the public and private sector in Research, Project Management, Training and Capacity Building.
He holds a Bsc. Statistics & Economics as well as MBA- Finance from the University of Nairobi. He is currently pursuing PHD studies from the same university.
Further, he is a Certified City and Guilds International Trainer.
